General Manager
Disaster Restoration Services, LLC (DRS) is a 24/7 full service insurance restoration company that specializes in commercial and residential Water, Fire, Storm and Mold Restoration. We are a very high energy and fast paced company.
The general manager will oversee all facets of the business – production, sales, marketing, finance, safety, human resources, and general administration. The general manager will be supported by the business owner, who will use his knowledge and experience to support the GM in growing the business.
The general manager is responsible for ensuring and improving the performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability of departmental and organizational operations through the provision of effective methods and strategies.
As our work takes us into the homes and businesses of others, successful passage of post-offer pre-employment and annual background checks as well as drug screening is required.
Principal Duties:
Plans, schedules, organizes, assigns, and directs all activities, either directly or through assigned personnel.
Sets and monitors goals for the overall team and tracks the financial performance of each project and department monitoring key metrics such as costs versus estimate, schedule versus plan, resource allocation and resource productivity, billing and collections, cash flow and profitability.
Helps foster and promote a collaborative and mutually beneficial and supportive relationships between Operations, Business Development, and other company business units.
Analyzes financial, contract management and other documents and reports to anticipate potential issues, problems and proactively develops solutions to address the same. Ensures the company’s legal obligations are met
Responsible for increasing customer satisfaction levels and customer retention.
Oversees project construction for compliance with specifications, codes, installation techniques and safety activities. Ensures customer approval of detailed job submittals, engineering drawings and other documentation created for the project
Support the creation of estimates or negotiates additional work for the customer in conjunction with the Sales department. Coordinates and presents change orders to customers in conjunction with Sales where appropriate
Ensures a complete close-out of each project and prompt payment of all payments due
Develops and maintains viable relationships with customers, consultants, prime contractors, subcontractors and trade personnel. Attends scheduled customer or job progress meetings as needed
Develops and coaches assigned team through development planning and goal setting
Ensures all team members are appropriately trained and certified as needed
Promotes and adheres to safety standards and all local and national codes
Makes quick, accurate decisions when necessary and takes responsibility for decisions.
Monitors work for timely completion and quality control, as we are all part of quality control.
Maintains a high degree of integrity and loyalty toward the company and all levels of employees.
The general manager is responsible the company’s overall budget and financial performance, as well as identifying ways to increase revenues and decrease costs and supporting in budget preparation. He or she will be responsible for ensuring that all divisional/company procedures are followed and that projects are completed in a timely manner within established budgetary guidelines. Specifically, the Operations Manager should:
* Focus on the Gross Profit margin.
* Focus on net profits for the divisions.
* Ensure that smart purchasing decisions are made (e.g., Home Depot).
* Ensure that staffs’ time is utilized efficiently and that people are routed effectively to maximize their productivity and minimize wasted time and effort.
* Ensure that deductibles, deposits and timely progress billings take place to maximize cash flow.
The general manager is responsible for oversight of all jobs. This includes monitoring current production reports to ensure that they are on time and within budget. Additionally, the general manager will continually review pending sales to ensure that closing ratios are high, and if not, figure out where the deficiency lies and to develop solutions.
The general manager is expected to have the knowledge regarding the developments and current trends in the industry. This includes attending professional workshops, reviewing industry publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the art practices and participating in professional associations. The general manager will generate opportunities to share this expertise with employees on a consistent basis.
Key Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or a related field preferred.
4-6 years commercial construction, general contracting and/or restoration experience required.
5+ years project management or construction operation management experience.
Must be able to travel in response to both emergency and non-emergency losses..
Outstanding management skills and demonstrated leadership, and fiscal management experience.
Ability to effectively delegate.
Maintain a “big picture” strategic view with an ability to solve problems.
Ability to translate policies into daily routine operations.
Self-assured, confident and goal-oriented.
Motivational practices and excellent presentation skills.
Strong writing and communications abilities.
Ability to communicate effectively with clients, internal and external contacts throughout the project management process.
Advanced time management and analytical skills.
Must be available for on call rotation. Available for emergency work after hours and on weekends and holidays. We are a company with 24/7 operation.
Must have reliable transportation, a valid CT driver’s license is required to operate DRS vehicles.
Travels as necessary.
Adheres to jobsite security and safety standards.
Must be detail oriented and organized.
Essential Job Functions:
Occasional lifting from 5-70 lbs, unassisted.
Access and mobility in tight spaces.
Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, crawling.
Push, pull, and frequently carry objects such as tools, materials, and equipment.
Work environments can vary depending upon the type of emergency situation involved. Generally, work environments may be dirty, dusty, damp, wet, or smoke filled. Some positions involve trauma/biohazard cleanup. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided in hazardous environments.
